Wooden box containing 12 glass microscope slides including specimens: "Oilshale with spores, Blue Mountains New South Wales", "Oilshale, Kimmeridge, Dorset (probably Australia)", "Fibres of Wool", "Fibres of Manilla Hemp", "Viscose Silk".

Scottish Oil's laboratory at Pumpherston monitored the production of oils and other products, and undertook the testing and development of new production processes One of a number of microscope slides from Pumpherston refinery, indicating the international role in the laboratory in analysing specimens from throughout the world.
