Medal "Edinburgh Central Mining Rescue Station" for Proficiency in Mine Rescue Work inscribed James Readdie, Oils No 2, 1928-1948.

Hall marked, made by Hamilton & Inches of Edinburgh. Medal complete with red presentation case stamped Hamilton & Inches, Edinburgh (case numbered LVSAV2010.144.001)

James Readdie BEM (Born c 1900, died 1981) of 1 Redhouse Cottages, Threemiletown worked at Threemiletown Pit and Whitequarries Mine. He was captain of the Rescue Brigade at the time of the Burngrange disaster in 1947 and Deputy at Whitequarries Mine in 1961 when he received his British Empire Medal for meritorious service in mine rescue work. James Readdie was the grandfather of the donor, Janet Wiltshire (nee Bennett)
