Description
Breathing apparatus, consisting of a hood covering the full head linked by a tube to foot operated bellows.
It bears makers plate "Siebe Gorman & Co Ltd, London" and details of a whistle code to allow communication between the wearer and the person supplying the air, c. 1930
Specially trained and equipped mine rescue teams were available to attend to underground emergencies. Acquired from the mines rescue station at Newbattle, Midlothian, this is of a type used for rescue work in shale mines.
