Report, 6 pages, dated 3rd October 1864, handwritten by B S Hendrick, Examiner, US Patent Office to the Commissioner of Patents regarding the application by James Young for an extension of the patent granted on 23rd March 1852, antedated 7th October 1850, for improvements in making paraffine oil.
Discusses opposition to the extension by the Union Coal Oil Company of Kentucky and the different references cited as anticipating the invention but finds in Young's favour. Also discusses litigations brought by Young in defending his patent. Sixth page is blank,"Historical papers relating to J Young Scotland"
