Description

12 ton A-Class railway tank wagon built by R Y Pickering, Wishaw for the Oakbank Oil Company Ltd.

As a private owner's wagon it was registered with the Caledonian Railway in 1910 with the registration number 25455. On preservation it carried the fleet number 041181 but it was previously Shell Mex & BP No 4112 and before that Scottish Oils Ltd 202. It was used to transport oils between works, refineries and depots. Following withdrawal from service it was used to store waste oil from the Dowty retarders (automatic track brakes used in hump shunt yards) at Tinsley Yard, Sheffield. During the mid 1980's it was used to store sewerage from railway offices in Belmont, Doncaster
