Table top brass telescope in wooden (mahogany) presentation box with plaque "Presented to Thomas Thornton by his employees and new friends at Auchenheath Collieries on his return from a trip to Australia.
Three feet in length Made in Glasgow, valued and dated within previous 10 years at "£900-1000", c 1840-1870.Believed to be the same Thomas Thornton, Coalmaster of Glasgow and Fauldhouse who had interests in numerous oil works in West Lothian and Fife together with his twin brother James Thornton
